China 3: Wolong (Blackthroat, Firethroat, Pygmy Wren Babbler, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Three-toed Parrotbill, Great Parrotbill, a near miss with a Temminck’s Tragopan):


China 4: Balangshan, day 1 (Chinese Monal, White-eared Pheasant, Sichuan Thrush, Golden Pheasant… and another near miss with a Temminck’s Tragopan):


China 5: Balangshan day 2 (White-browed Rosefinch, Tibetan Snowcock, Grandala, Red-fronted & Streaked Rosefinches, Himalayan Rubythroat, Verreaux’s Monal Partridge):


China 6: Towards Tibet (Blue-fronted Redstart, White-throated Redstart, Alpine Leaf Warbler):


China 7: Tibetan Plateau day 1 (Hodgson’s Redstart, Greenish, Dusky & Hume’s Warblers, White-browed Tit Warbler, Daurian jackdaw, White-browed Tit, Tibetan Wagtail):


China 8: Tibetan Plateau day 2 (Hume’s Ground Tit, Tibetan Wagtail, Tibetan Lark, Black-necked Crane, White-rumped & Rufous-necked Snowfinches, Saker Falcon, Horned Lark):


China 9: Tibetan Plateau, day 3 (Maroon-backed Accentor, White-bellied Redstart, Three-banded Rosefinch, Sichuan Jay, White-winged Grosbeak, Chinese Grouse):


China 10: the Tibetan Plateau to Jiuzhaigou National Park
(A travel day, but still some good birds – Tiger Shrike, Siberian Rubythroat, Himalayan Bluetail, Chestnut Thrush):


China 11: Jiuzhaigou National Park (Indian Blue Robin, Pere David Tit, Chestnut-headed Tesia, Crimson-breasted Woodpecker, some damn fine scenery and pink selfie sticks):

China 12: Jiuzhaigou to Tangjihae (Nutcracker, Pacific/Salim Ali Swift, White-throated Needletail, White-throated Needletail! White-throated Needletail!!):

China 13: a very wet day in Tangjiahe Nature Reserve, in northern Sichuan, China.
(Tawny Fish Owl, Sulphur-breasted Warbler, Black-faced & Little Buntings, plus some good mammals, Takin & Tibetan Macaque):

China 14: Tangjiahe (White-crowned Forktail, Ultramarine Flycatcher, White-throated Laughingthrush, Temminck’s Tragopan and Sichuan hotpot):

China 15 – Essentially a travel day to the final site of the trip, but there was some morning birding around Dujiangyan in the Chengdu basin, before the drive south to Longcanngou.
(Fire-breasted Flowerpecker, Northern BooBook Owl, House Swift):

China 16: Three days at Longcanggou, in appalling weather and mud, but we did just about manage to pull out some good birds (Lady Amherst’s Pheasant, Emei and Kloss’s Leaf Warblers, Sichuan Treecreeper, Brown & Golden Parrotbill, Streaked Barwing, Spotted and Little Forktails):
